Just some of my favs

Above are some favicons (scaled 700%) I designed for the following sites:

I love creating favicons, then again I love logos so its only natural I would. You get only 16px X 16px to in essence recreate your logo or some identifying (brand) mark. Your site just isn’t complete (or pimp) without one. They are so easy to create too. Probably the hardest thing is finding a free .ico photoshop plugin which allows you to save your file with a .ico (icon) extension. Other than that it’s just overwriting your current favicon.ico via ftp and wallah!

BKNY…coming soon

0
March 8, 2010

_
I couldn’t keep the cat in the bag any longer…

Although as it stands, it’s nothing but a site that sells nothing, I figured I might as well put up a landing page for my BKNY brand (either that or a rubbish GoDaddy placeholder page). I had hoped to launch before summer is over, but now it’s looking like it’s probably going to be more like an early fall launch. Every time I think I am taking two steps forward, I find myself taking 3 steps back. I’m hoping my thoroughness pays off in the end (trademark, strengthening brand identity, photo shoots, flippin’ awesome site).

As of now, I have 2 designs at the printer and one other ‘hot’ item in the works. I did though pick up a bunch of sweet custom stamps this week from Casey’s. I highly recommend paying him a visit (rad ol’Irish dude). All you need is a black and white laser print out (to size) of your artwork and he’ll make you a stamp. Trust me, it’s worth it just to pay him a visit and shoot the sh*t, he is a trip.

In the meantime, you may want to look out for Clintees (an offshoot of Clint’s Headhoods line) which is probably dropping real soon.

On a totally different, I’m seeing Washed Out tonight at the Mercury Lounge, should be an awesome show, can’t wait!

HOLY!

Via Syyn Labs:

When the rock band OK Go, famous for their viral videos including the spectacular and award winning “treadmills video”, wanted to feature a 4-minute long Rube Goldberg Machine in an upcoming video, they tapped Syyn Labs to build it. The requirements were that it had to be interesting, not “overbuilt” or too technology-heavy, and easy to follow. The machine also had to be built on a shoestring budget, synchronize with beats and lyrics in the music and end on time over a 3.5 minute song, play a part of the song, and be filmed in one shot. To make things more challenging still, the space chosen was divided into two floors and the machine would use both.

Simply incredible.

Been busy, busy, busy

0
March 2, 2010

This past week I have been mia from posting because I have been busy trying to put together my new apparel line (!). It’s going to be real small to start (what I can afford). But what has been a long-time dream of mine ever since working in the industry is finally starting to come together. I’m not going to show anything yet, I’d rather drop everything (get the full experience) at once. I’m so excited to be finally selling something I created (had no one telling me what I should/shouldn’t be doing) – Take that man!

Anyhow, while my designs are at the local printer, I have been really focusing on the back end and branding (how my brand comes through via hangtag, sewn/printed labels, packaging etc) because that is something I think is important and for those who know me, take really seriously. I hope to launch within the month (may be wishful thinking), but we’ll see. I will definitely keep all my worlds (facebook, twitter, blog) posted on any progress.

Stay tuned…

Hound's Tooth - Threadless T-shirts, Nude No More

_
Its has been almost an eternity since I last entered a submission into the Threadless weekly t-shirt competition…it has been even longer since I was printed. Since I come up with a couple of these ideas a week and never really act on them, I figured today I’d submit a shirt design. It’s a clever idea. May not be the best execution of it, but my fingers are crossed. I’m surely going to give a shout once it’s approved for voting. Be on the lookout Facebook world!

After holding out as long as I could (she had some nappy dreads), I finally took Miso to be groomed. I think they did a great job with what they had to work with.

I’m becoming a Wordpress machine

Worpress theme re-designing has become my new found addiction. It started with re-designing my personal blog and now has carried over to some recent freelance work I’m doing.

These are two blogs I recently re-designed:

I’m not at the point where I can fully code a custom theme from scratch yet , but I’m surely getting there. For now, it’s just taking existing themes and customizing them as much as I can.

Make Peace Brothers t-shirt competition

0
February 17, 2010

_
If it’s two things I consider myself well-versed in, it’s branding and t-shirts. My buddy Chris’ friend’s band is running a Facebook t-shirt contest until February 28th, so I decided to enter. Who knows, I think the graphic I created would make for a great logo too.

Trash pickin’ bonanza

0
February 14, 2010

_
I came across that sweet ol’skool skate deck on the curb this morning and figured I share the trash picked goodies I have found recently. You can seriously find the coolest stuff curbside sometimes (my kitchen mirror). Even though the deck was facing grip tape out, the hot pink rails gave’er away as an old retro deck with what I hoped were sweet graphics. I was right. Look at that ‘rad’ panther and color scheme…a keeper fo’sho.

The chair I copped on what was one of the most miserably cold and wet early mornings ever while walking miso. That, and I found the chair towards the beginning of the walk so I had to lug it all around Greenpoint while juggling a leashed dog. But after a good clean up, it was so worth it. By far one of the coolest pieces of furniture I have ever come across in the garbage. It also has a secret cubby hole to store your keep sakes.

BKLYN done right

This made my day. I am always a sucker for quality, simple and iconic logos/marks. To me, they are the most impactful, yet simplest forms of graphic design (think about the Nike swoosh). This mark by Jon Contino kills it.
