Besides this past weekend’s weather being amazing, I finally had the chance to do my first official wheat paste (design, make paste, perform act). I had mentioned before that I was planning on pasting my address onto the front of my building (how it lacked a true identifying address). Well, last night after my fresh paste was done cooling, I hit my front door. My luck though, it has been soggy and wet (a wheat paste worst enemy) today, so I’m hoping it stays up until we get some sun so it can bake.
Besides that, I also had the chance to have Mr. Headhood hook my whip up with a custom ‘coolage’. Again, the rain may play a factor in how long it last, but for now it looks dope parked in my hood (if you look at second picture closely, top right, you can see miso giving her approval).
- UPDATES!
- had an impromptu photo shoot for BKNY, products should be available to buy this week!
- countdown to Flying Lotus at Le Poisson Rouge on 3/30!

My mini photo shoot with Clint was a success. I was able to re-design my BKNY landing page yesterday (to what I originally had in mind). My metal rimmed tags and striped string also finally arrived. I am planning on hand stamping each side of the tag, then with a safety pin, affix them onto the shirts (hanging under the sleeve). All the pieces are coming together slowly. I can’t wait until I can hold up a completed product (or better yet, make my first sale!).
Besides BKNY, the word has gotten around that I’m kinda an indexhibit master. My friend Emily came over and I helped her install (and code) a site for her book covers she designs. That last picture was from our walk with miso. Greenpoint has great unobstructed views of Manhattan along the East River (blocks from my apt).

Yesterday, besides being beautiful, was a really good day – by good, I mean really productive. The photos above are a recap of what I got done.
- Paid visit to my silkscreener to finish up my first run of shirts, I chose to run my printed label in green for the organic blanks (peep the hand stamped size, uugh!).
- I figured I might as well hang my bike to make space for my inventory and to re-organize my office/bedroom.
- Clint came over (needed to borrow his camera) and while sippin’ on some red & white dyn-o-mites (roomate’s nickname), he helped me snap some cool pics for my BKNY website. That picture is from my roof (shot with my iPhone). I came to the realization (I overlook the East River), that until the high-rise boom hits Greenpoint, I have waterfront property, holla!
All in all a great day by all means. Hopefully I can keep this productive vibe going for the rest of the week. I still have to finalize my sew-in label and finish the retail portion of my website.

Today during some of my downtime at work, I finally designed the ‘99′ I am going to wheatpaste on my building’s door in Greenpoint. I figured since my door doesn’t even have a real functioning address anyhow, I might as well help out the mailman. You’d laugh if you saw what was up there now (wish I had a picture).
I ran old and yellowed newsprint through our HUGE Canon laser printer here at work. I had to cut down the sheets so I could affix them to color laser tabloid paper (to act as a guide, either that or the newsprint jams). The 9’s came out great and I am really excited about finding the right opportunity to put them up (unfortunately the forecast this weekend is a wet one). When the time does come, I am definitely going to enlist a little help from wheatpastin’ extraordinaire Clint.
Up until now, he’s been having all the fun in my hood.

I came across that sweet ol’skool skate deck on the curb this morning and figured I share the trash picked goodies I have found recently. You can seriously find the coolest stuff curbside sometimes (my kitchen mirror). Even though the deck was facing grip tape out, the hot pink rails gave’er away as an old retro deck with what I hoped were sweet graphics. I was right. Look at that ‘rad’ panther and color scheme…a keeper fo’sho.
The chair I copped on what was one of the most miserably cold and wet early mornings ever while walking miso. That, and I found the chair towards the beginning of the walk so I had to lug it all around Greenpoint while juggling a leashed dog. But after a good clean up, it was so worth it. By far one of the coolest pieces of furniture I have ever come across in the garbage. It also has a secret cubby hole to store your keep sakes.

So this is what happens when you mix a ventriloquist puppet’s face with Elvis’. Looks dope.
Can’t confrim I was there when he did this, nor can I verify we then proceeded to gorge FREE! pizza and drink beers at Lulu’s across the street {wink}. Anyhow, I am really digging his mashed up faces he is now doing. Whether its on the streets (and bathrooms?!) of Brooklyn or showing at galleries in London, keep the faces coming Mr. HeadHood (whoever you are…)!
